Telegram Mini App or a mobile app: what to choose for bookings and orders

If your customers already write to you in Telegram, a Mini App lets them book or order without installing anything. A native app gives more control but costs more and has to be found and installed first. Here is how to choose.

What a Telegram Mini App is

A Mini App is a web interface that opens inside Telegram, on top of a chat with your bot. It can show a catalog, a booking calendar, a cart and a payment screen. The customer stays in the messenger, and the bot can send reminders and order updates in the same chat.

When a Mini App is the better choice

  • Your audience already uses Telegram every day.
  • You need bookings, orders, a catalog or a simple personal account, not complex offline features.
  • You want to launch in weeks, not months.
  • You do not want to depend on App Store and Google Play reviews for every update.

When you need a native app

  • The product depends on device features: background location, Bluetooth, heavy offline work.
  • Your customers do not use Telegram or it is restricted in their country.
  • The app is the product itself, not a way to place an order.

Check where your customers are. Telegram is restricted or slowed down by some internet providers in several countries, including Russia. If that is your main market, plan a second channel: a website with the same booking flow or a PWA that installs from the browser.

Cost and timeline

Our Telegram Bot and Mini App package costs from $3,000. It includes conversation scenarios, a Mini App with up to 5 screens, an admin panel, one payment provider, notifications and analytics. It does not include a marketplace with many sellers, crypto payments or a native iOS or Android app.

A native app for two platforms usually needs separate design for each store, review cycles and more testing, so it costs several times more and takes longer. Many businesses start with a Mini App, check demand, and build a native app later if it is still needed.

A simple way to decide

  1. Write down the three actions a customer must complete, for example choose a service, pick a time, pay.
  2. Check whether each action works in a browser. If yes, a Mini App or a PWA will cover it.
  3. Check where your customers communicate today. If it is Telegram, start there.
